House Passes Bill to Crack Down on Sex Offenders

Washington, Sep 14 - The House of Representatives passed today the Children's Safety Act, a bill to help stop sexual violence against our nation's children. Congressman Ric Keller is a cosponsor, and voted in favor of this crucial legislation.

"The best way to protect young children is to keep child predators locked up in the first place, because someone who has molested a child will do it again, and again, and again," Keller said.

The Children's Safety Act strengthens the Sex Offender Registry by improving verification standards, helping states share information and by imposing tough, mandatory penalties on criminals who fail to register.

The bill also provides a mandatory minimum punishment of 30 years in jail for those who commit violent crimes against children, as well as a minimum punishment of life in prison or a death sentence when that crime results in the child's death.
